Melissa Ricks, Phil Absent in 'In the Name of Love' Premiere

Are celebrity couple Melissa Ricks and Jake Cuenca not in good terms?

During the premiere night of Star Cinema’s 18th anniversary offering “In The Name of Love” on Tuesday, it was noticeable that Ricks was nowhere to be found to support Cuenca, who is among the movie’s lead stars along with Angel Locsin and Aga Muhlach.

This led to speculations that the 2 are not okay since the young actress has recently been posting in her official Twitter account angry rants about someone whom she refuses to name.

Ricks was also constantly tweeting about her eagerness to watch the Justin Bieber concert, which was held on the same day.

In an interview with Push.com.ph, Cuenca clarified that he does not feel bad that his girlfriend did not make it in the premiere night of his movie.

“Busy siya today eh. Of course I invited her. No, [hindi ako nagtampo]. Alam ko naman na yung suporta na binibigay sa akin ni Mel higit pa sa pagpunta dito. Kumbaga naitawid ko din yung isang taon at kalahating yun dahil sa suporta ni Melissa,” he said.

“So I think that would be a lot more than just watching the premiere night. And she can watch naman tomorrow in the screenings. That would mean something kasi gagastos pa siya,” he added.

Many people also noticed Phil Younghusband’s absence during the red carpet premiere.

Like Ricks, Younghusband was also in the Justin Beiber concert.

“Good night sa inyong lahat. Nag enjoy ako ng justin bieber concert kanina :) Mag ingat kayo lagi,” the football player tweeted.

Younghusband, however, posted a congratulatory message to all the people behind the Star Cinema movie. He has also called on the public to watch the film.

“Congrats to everyone involved in the movie "In The Name Of Love" especially to Angel, Aga and Jake. Go watch it now if you havnt seen it,” he said.

Younghusband is courting Locsin. In a recent interview, he revealed that he and Locsin are already exclusively dating.

'In The Name of Love' Earns P15-M on it's First Day

Star Cinema’s 18th anniversary offering “In The Name of Love” earned P15 million in ticket sales on its first showing day, “Showbiz News Ngayon” reported Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the red carpet was rolled out for the grand premiere of the acclaimed drama film.

The cast of the movie was at a loss for words as hundreds of fans flocked at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City to show support.

Even the cast’s showbiz friends showed up and offered the whole team good words on the movie.

Actress Ruffa Gutierrez said she was moved to tears the moment she heard Gary Valenciano’s rendition of the movie’s soundtrack. She noted that the entire movie was great.

“They were great, I really felt the movie. You will really feel the pain in their hearts and what they did in the name of love. I suddenly thought , what have I really done in the name of love,“ she said.

Actress Bubbles Paraiso, on the other hand, said: “I can’t help myself but cry especially when the scenes became intense. I was trying to control my emotions but I can’t, but I brought tissues with me.”

Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos was amazed by the movie and showered the cast with praise.

“Aga is a very good actor, great performance! This is not the last movie of Aga with Star Cinema. Angel and Jake Cuenca, very great performances,” she said.

Muhlach’s wife, Charlene Gonzales, graced the event.

“It’s Philippine cinema at its finest. This movie is a masterpiece! I was crying from the beggining until the end. Tignan mo yung itsura ko,” she said.

“It’s overwhelming especially I know what they’ve gone through in the making of the movie,” Gonzales added.

AJ Perez's girlfriend 'Steph Ayson' to enter showbiz?

Steph Ayson, the girlfriend of the late actor AJ Perez, was among the personalities who performed in the recital project of the popular dance group G-Force on Monday. Was it Ayson’s first step in entering the world of show business?

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Ayson said she does not plan to venture into the entertainment industry.

“No, po. I don’t have any plans of entering showbiz kasi focus ko po studies ko kasi papasok pa lang po ako ng college,” she said.

According to Ayson, she just performed in G-Force’s recital because it has always been her dream to dance.

Ayson performed a lyrical dance and she said she offered it to Perez and her family.

“The song kasi is very moving. It’s entitled ‘Pray’ po by Justin Bieber. It’s instrumental contemporary so very emotional po. It’s a tribute na rin po for AJ. Alam ko po na he wants me to do this. He wants me to keep on dancing. Yon po ang sabi niya sa akin. I know na he would love to see me dancing like this. So yon po, siya lang po ang inaalala ko the whole time and my family rin po siyempre,” she said.

Nina, Zia Quizon, and K-La of Star Power were also present in the recital.

Celebrities including Rayver Cruz, Enchong Dee, Karylle, Vina Morales, Christian Bautista, and Erik Santos were spotted in the event.

Andrea Torres names Dingdong Dantes as dream leading man

Hindi na maituturing na newcomer ang young actress na si Andrea Torres dahil ilang shows na rin ang nilabasan niya, bukod pa sa kanyang TV commercials.

"Nag-host po ako ng two years sa Ka-Blog, dito rin po sa GMA, pero sa News and Public Affairs. Teen show po siya.

"Pero before that, kasama po ako sa mga movies ng Regal, tulad ng Shake, Rattle & Roll 9 and 10. Manay Po 2, You To Me Are Everything po," banggit ni Andrea sa ilang proyekto na nagawa na niya before.

FROM BAD TO GOOD. Pero masasabing ang upcoming GMA-7 afternoon soap na Blusang Itim ang pinakamalaking opportunity na dumating sa kanya.

Dito ay gagampanan niya ang role ng kaibigan ng bidang si Kylie Padilla, ngunit may gusto naman siya kay Carl Guevara.

Pero kahit ganoon, hindi raw kontrabida ang role niya.

Sa You To Me Are Everything ay naging kontrabida siya ni Marian Rivera. So, ayaw na niyang magkontrabida?

"Opo, mas gusto ko po sana, parang mas challenging po sa akin yung nagda-drama,"sabi ni Andrea.

"Hindi rin po kasi ako iyaking talaga. So, parang mas fulfilling sa akin kapag nakakaiyak ako, nagda-drama ako.

"Ang daming nagsasabi sa akin na masungit, so gusto ko naman pong ibahin yung usual."

Hindi naman daw siya nagkaroon ng negative experience when she played kontrabida to Marian.

Nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at iba pang press si Andrea sa presscon ng Blusang Itim noong Lunes, May 9, sa 17th floor ng GMA Network Center.

Ano ang masasabi ni Andrea na edge niya over other aspiring actresses?

"Ayoko naman pong i-compare ang sarili ko. Pero pumasok po ako rito dahil sa craft mismo. Yung pag-arte.

"Sana nga po makita nila kung gaano ako ka-passionate sa craft ko, sa pag-arte ko.

"Sana makilala nila ako more than anything sa maipapakita kong talent sa kanila," sabi niya.

NO TO FHM. Maganda at may height si Andrea. Kung sakali, payag ba siyang mag-cover ng FHM Magazine.

"Hindi po...hindi pa po ako kumportable sa katawan ko," malaking iling niya.

Twenty years old na si Andrea pero feeling daw niya, bata pa rin siya.

Conservative ba siya?

"Medyo po!" natatawa niyang sabi.

"Yung parents ko po, pareho silang religious. Pero yung daddy ko, strict siya. Gusto niya, hindi ako yung labas-labas palagi.

"Ang hangout ko lang, mall-bahay. Movie with friends.

"Hindi ako pala-bar. Clean fun palagi."

DREAM LEADING MEN. Kung siya ang papapiliin, sino sa hanay ng mga aktor ngayon ang gusto niyang makapareha?

"Gusto ko pong maka-partner, siyempre po, si Dingdong Dantes," ani Andrea.

"Although, parang kuya-kuya ang tingin ko sa kanya. Pero pagdating sa acting, ang sarap niyang partner kasi ang galing niyang umarte.

"Tapos sina Dennis Trillo rin po, Richard Gutierrez... Kasi, sila ang parang leading men."

ANDREA'S ROLE MODEL. Sino naman sa hanay ng mga artistang babae ang gusto niyang tularan ang career path.

Isa lang ang naging sagot ni Andrea: "Si Marian Rivera po."

"Sobrang bait po kasi niya. Kahit baguhan lang ako, talagang okay lang sa kanya...siya pa ang nag-alok sa akin na tumabi sa kanya.

"Iniaalok niya yung mga foods niya, mga baon niya, nagbibigay siya ng chocolates."

Nabanggit namin kay Andrea na iba ang mga nasusulat madalas tungkol sa ugali diumano ni Marian.

Pero aniya, "Nagugulat nga po ako. Mabait po siya.

"Noong una nga po, parang naninigas pa ako sa tabi niya kasi baka sabihin niya, feeling close ako.

"Baguhan lang ako bigla akong tatabi sa kanya.

"Pero siya mismo ang nag-aalok. Siya mismo ang nagpapakita na approachable siya," saad ni Andrea.

Blusang Itim ni Elena Patron, malapit na sa GMA

Simula sa Mayo 16, ipakikita ng GMA 7 sa pagsasatelebisyon ng Elena Patron's Blusang Itim na magpapakita na ang panlabas na anyo – maganda man o hindi - ay hindi hadlang sa kapalaran ng isang tao.

Sasabak na si Kylie Padilla sa kanyang kauna-unahang pagbibida dahil siya ang gaganap sa karakter na pinasikat ni Snooky Serna sa 1980's movie. Matapos mapanood sa primetime drama na Dwarfina at sa hit series na Tween Hearts, haharapin ng anak ni Robin Padilla ang pinakamalaking challenge sa kanyang career -- ang buhayin muli si Jessa, ang timeless lead character sa Blusang Itim.

Sa afternoon drama na ito, matutunghayan ang kwento sa likod ng hindi magandang mukha ni Jessa at kung paanong nangangarap siyang matanggap at makapasok sa fashion industry bilang isang designer.

Kasama ni Kylie sa series ang ilan sa young and promising stars ngayon. Kabilang dito sina Frank Magalona bilang Angelo, isang kilalang modelong matagal nang hinahangaan ni Jessa.

Lalaki si Jessa na nangungulila sa pagmamahal ng makasarili at ganid na inang si Esmeralda (Jackielou Blanco). Ang hindi niya alam, si Esmeralda ang bunga ng kanyang paghihirap at maging ng kanyang pangit na mukha.

Habang nagdadalang-tao si Rhea (Rita Avila), ang tunay na ina ni Jessa, gumawa ng paraan si Esmeralda upang malaglag ang bata. Hindi kasi matanggap ng huli na mas pinili ni Gerald (Gary Estrada) si Rhea kahit na sinabi niyang buntis din siya.

Hindi man nagtagumpay si Esmeralda na mapatay ang anak ng mag-asawa, nagawa naman niyang miserable kahit papaano at puno nang kasinungalingan ang buhay nila.

Nang manganak si Rhea, hindi makapaniwala si Gerald na deformed ang mukha ng sanggol dahil sa muntik nitong pagka-abort. Naisip niyang alukin si Esmeralda ng pera upang makipagpalit ng anak sapagkat bagong silang din ang anak nitong si Edward.

Tinanggap ni Esmeralda ang offer at kinuha ang kawawang si Jessa ngunit kahit kalian ay hindi niya ito itinuring na anak.

Buong buhay niya, inaasam ni Jessa na matatanggap siya ng mga tao sa kabila ng kanyang hitsura. Hangad din din niyang ibigin siya ng isang lalaking tatanggapin ang kanyang anyo.

Lahat ng ito ay tila imposible hanggang sa dalhin siya ng kanyang mabuting puso sa mahiwagang blusang itim. Hindi lamang pagagandahin ng blusang ito ang kanyang mukha, kundi maging ang kanyang buhay ay babaguhin nito.

Ang blusang itim nga ba ang magiging daan upang maabot ni Jessa ang kanyang mga pangarap at makuha ang buhay na dapat ay mayroon siya? O gagawin ba nitong mas kumplikado at puno ng sakit ang kanyang buhay? Makakatulong kaya ang blusang itim upang makamit niya ang tunay na pag-ibig at pagtanggap na matagal na niyang hinahangad?

Sundan kung paanong ipinagkait ng panlabas na anyo ng isang tao ang pagmamahal na dapat ay kanya at kung paanong mababago ang takbo ng kayang buhay dahil na rin sa kanyang kabutihan.
