VIDEO: What it’s like to be Xbox Live buddies with Jules Winnfield or Mace Windu Posted: 12 May 2011 03:30 AM PDT Or simply Samuel L. Jackson. Not sure if he actually partakes in Call of Duty, but if he did, it would sound something like this... (BTW, the audio is a bit on the NSWF-side, but I’m guessing you already knew that would be the case) Ah, the modern miracle that is the soundboard! Bonus video, starring the voice of Ahnold… Unfortunately, neither can touch the brilliance of the Macho Man Randy Savage mod for Left 4 Dead, sorry… Samuel L. VIDEO: Bandai Namco is set to deliver another two-hit combo Posted: 11 May 2011 03:05 PM PDT For those who have been asking “Gee, it’s it about time we got more Tekken and Soul Calibur?” Guess what; you’re right! Earlier today, Namco revealed a slew of games headed towards you console or handheld in the coming months. For the time being, let’s concentrate on two notable franchise additions, staring with Soul Calibur 5… Okay, there’s really not much to talk about here. It’s just another teaser trailer with a few flashes of familiar faces, plus one possible newbie. Still, it’s Soul Calibur! Though like many hardcore fans, the last one left me a bit cold… Never-mind how far too convoluted the storyline has become, the biggest offense was how needlessly complex the new damage system was. Hopefully the next chapter will do away with all that weapon and armor nonsense, and make things less of a button masher. I also wasn’t a fan of the art direction, which basically made all the femme fatales look like prostitutes. Though more than anything else, I just hope there are NO MORE GUEST CHARACTERS. All that Star Wars b.s. seriously dragged everything down. Next we have Tekken! And sorry, not Tekken X Street Fighter as many had been hoping for. Remember, we’re talking about Namco’s take on the world colliding… Capcom’s is called Street Fighter X Tekken, which most know about already. Apparently, they haven’t even started work on it yet! At least Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is coming along just fine… Actually, that trailer is from a while ago (but since it has yet to grace this site, I think it’s all good). Unfortunately, no new footage of the game was revealed, but the most important thing is how it’s still on pace! Though the real Tekken news is Tekken Blood Vengeance. Which isn’t a new game but a CGI flick… Doesn’t look half bad! Very similar to that Resident Evil CGI movie that came out not too long ago (and for good reason; animation is being handled by the same folks). At the very least, it looks miles above the crappy live-action movie that was such a stinker that it never came out in American theaters (I believe it was projected on various tiny screens throughout Asia though)… … The movie finally comes out on DVD and Blu-ray in America in July.
SportsHex: Put a literal curse on your opponent from your phone Posted: 11 May 2011 02:15 PM PDT
SportsHex — available only for those 17 and older — allows users to purchase black magic curses for just $0.99 . Yes, that’s correct — you can literally buy curses via your phone. “SportsHex is an application that allows fans to cast sharable hexes on opposing teams or players using real practitioners of black magic,” the apps description says. “Identify your target, select a hex/practitioner, and hit the “cast” button. Your target’s name is instantly sent to an inbox which has been cursed by the chosen practitioner.” Now, obviously, there’s no real “guarantee” that this will work. But that’s probably not going to stop me from spending at least a comma on trying to keep Harrison Barnes from coming back for his sophomore year. And here’s the absolutely terrifying video. VIDEO: The hipsterfication of gaming continues on pace Posted: 11 May 2011 02:14 PM PDT Some find pretty looking and super stylish young folks celebrating gaming rather cringe-worthy, an infringement of safe and hallowed grounds. Others believe it’s just the things go, as everyone becomes accounted for in the gaming space. I will admit, I’m on the fence. Hipsters are simply the latest iterations of dopey kids, doing the same song and dance that’s been going on since forever; they find whatever is popular and try to become part of its “scene”, often without actually understanding how such and such works in the first place. Which to be honest isn’t the worst crime in the world, it just so happens that most hipsters today are ESPECIALLY obnoxious, clueless, and disingenuous about it. Coupled with how they’re seemingly prettier and richer than ever before… the fact that many should be happy yet are all needlessly angsty is simply icing on the cake (at least the emos that came before didn’t seem so well off). Let’s take Pomplamoose for example, darlings of the indie music scene. I hate, HATE, HATE them. They seriously make my ears bleed. That stupid commercial they were on during the holidays made me scream in anger anytime it came on, which was a lot. Like all hipster acts, there is absolutely nothing to them other than looking pretty and sounding cute. Using YouTube to their full advantage is also a big component of such acts these day; they can pump out ultra topical songs in the blink of an eye, which is impressive enough to compensate for the fact the music itself is essnetially unbearable. At least Weird Al had to make sure his tunes worked after the punch line was no longer in the headlines. Anyhow, I guess it’s only fitting that they do a cover of Angry Birds (not sure how I’d feel if they did… say… the theme to Panzer Dragoon Saga)…. I don’t why I have the urge to scream at the girl to grow a pair since, you know, she’s not supposed to have any period. On a semi-related note, it’s not necessarily gaming related, but touches upon everything else we’ve discussed, plus the chick here is WAY hotter (warning: NSFW audio ahead)… Still, not all hipsters are horrible. Some are actually pretty cool! I’m even friends with a few, the ones with good video game tastes at least. Not pals with these two dudes, but I certainly wouldn’t mind being b-fries (and sticking with the theme of rap, established earlier today)…
